Disclaimer

On a tax website this page is not boilerplate. It is a trust signal, and it is linked from the footer of every page that carries a figure.

General information, not advice

Everything on this website is general information about federal, Oregon, Washington and Portland-area tax rules. It is not tax, legal or financial advice about your individual situation, and reading it does not create a client relationship between you and Heather’s Tax Service & More.

Tax outcomes depend on facts. Two households with the same income can owe very different amounts because of where they live, where they work, what they own and when things happened. Nothing here can account for your facts, and we would not want you to act as though it could.

Figures change, and they change often

  • Rates, thresholds, brackets and contribution limits are adjusted annually — most of them, but not all, in January
  • Metro SHS and Multnomah Preschool for All thresholds have been adjusted since introduction
  • Washington’s capital gains tax has been amended more than once since it took effect
  • Legislation can change any of this mid-year, occasionally retroactively

Pages carrying figures show the tax year they apply to and link to the official source. We review every one of them each January before the season opens. If you are reading a page months after that review and a lot has happened, check the official source or call us.

We link to the IRS, the Oregon Department of Revenue, the City of Portland Revenue Division, Metro, Multnomah County and the Washington Department of Revenue because those are the authoritative sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content. Where a link and this site disagree, the official source is right.

No guaranteed outcomes

No tax practitioner can guarantee a refund amount, an audit outcome, or the acceptance of any application to a taxing authority. Where we describe what is possible, we are describing possibilities, not promises. Any firm that promises you an outcome before seeing your documents is telling you something about themselves.

What to do instead

Talk to us about your actual situation. An appointment is quicker than reading, and it will be about your facts rather than about the general case. Get in touch.
