Tax preparation and bookkeeping in Damascus, OR

Damascus is unusual: it incorporated as a city and then voted to disincorporate in 2016, so it is now unincorporated Clackamas County. That history matters because the Metro district boundary runs through this area, and the answer genuinely differs from address to address.

Which tax jurisdictions Damascus is actually in

Damascus is in Clackamas County. Oregon’s local tax boundaries do not follow city limits or ZIP codes, so this is worth being precise about.

  • The Metro district boundary runs near here — Metro SHS applies to some addresses and not others. Use the official address lookup, not the ZIP code.
  • Outside Multnomah County, so Preschool for All does not apply on residency — but it can still apply to income sourced to work performed in the county.
  • Unincorporated Clackamas County — no city business license tax of its own, but county and district obligations still apply.
  • Because the boundary runs through this area, two neighbors can have different Metro SHS positions. Use the address lookup.

The local economy, and what it means for a tax return

Nurseries and agricultural land, home-based trades and contractors, and acreage properties. Boring immediately south shares the same profile. Many households here run a business from the property they live on.

We work with clients around the Highway 212 corridor, the nurseries along Sunnyside and Foster, Boring immediately south and the acreage running east toward Sandy.

What we do most of in Damascus

Working with us from here

About fifteen minutes from the Clackamas office via Highway 212.

Most clients outside the immediate Clackamas area work with us remotely — secure document exchange, a phone or video appointment, and e-filing. If you would rather sit across a desk, both offices do that too: Clackamas and The Dalles.

Questions we get from Damascus

Am I inside the Metro district?

It depends on your exact address — the boundary runs through this area. This is the single most important thing to confirm before assuming Metro SHS does or does not apply.

Is Damascus still a city?

No. It disincorporated in 2016 and is now unincorporated Clackamas County. Some older guidance still refers to it as a city.

I run a business from my property.

Then the home office, vehicle and property allocation questions all apply, and they are worth getting right on acreage where the numbers are larger.

I run a business from acreage I also live on. How is that split?

By actual business use — of the buildings, the land and the vehicles. On acreage the numbers are large enough that getting the allocation defensible is worth doing properly, and it matters again when the property is eventually sold.
