Bookkeeping

Monthly bookkeeping for small businesses

A monthly close is the difference between running a business on data and running it on the bank balance. It is also what turns a tax return from an archaeological dig into a review.

What a month looks like

  1. 1Transactions categorized against a chart of accounts built for your business
  2. 2All bank, credit card and loan accounts reconciled
  3. 3Accounts receivable and payable reviewed and aged
  4. 4Payroll posted and reconciled to filings
  5. 5Profit and loss, balance sheet and cash position produced
  6. 6The period closed so the numbers stop moving
  7. 7A short note on anything that looks off — before it becomes a year-end problem

What you get out of it

  • Real profitability by month, so seasonality is visible rather than felt
  • A defensible basis for quarterly estimates instead of a guess
  • Early warning on CAT and local business tax thresholds before you cross them
  • Lender-ready and grant-ready statements without a two-week scramble
  • A tax return prepared from reconciled books, which is faster and cheaper to produce
How much of my time does this take?

After setup, usually a short monthly exchange about anything ambiguous. The point is to take the work off you, not to move it around.

Do you need access to my bank accounts?

Read-only feeds through QuickBooks, or statements you provide. We never need the ability to move money.

What if my books are behind before we start?

We do a catch-up first, then move into the monthly rhythm from a clean starting point.

Can you produce reports my lender will accept?

Yes. Reconciled monthly statements are exactly what lenders ask for, and having twelve consecutive months of them is what makes a loan application straightforward.
